A female college student found hanging from the ceiling of her flat in the capital's Jatrabari Police Station area on Saturday morning.
The deceased was identified as Mst Jhumur Akter, 22, hailed from Ghatail upazila of Tangail, lived in a rented flat of Golapbagh Police Quarter and was a student of Begum Badrunnesa Government Girls' College.
Md Iqbal Hossain , brother-in-law of the victim, said that he was rescued from the flat in a critical condition at around 9:00am and taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) where doctor declared her dead.
"It was assumed that a dispute between the victim and her family members might have driven Jhumur to take her own life by hanging herself from the ceiling fan," he said.
Confirming the matter, DMCH Police outpost in-charge inspector Md Bachchu Mia said Jhumur's body has been kept in the hospital morgue for autopsy, and the concerned police station has been informed about the matter. Necessary steps will be taken in this regard, added the police official.
