College girl drowns in Kuliarchar

A college student named Sumaiya (18) drowned while taking a bath at Kuliarchar in Kishoreganj. The tragic death happened on Sunday (June 27) afternoon in Mohsin canal behind Pailanpur Mahalla of the municipality.

Sumaiya Akhter was a meritorious student of class eleven of Kuliarchar Government College. She is known to be the daughter of Iqbal Hossain (Selim).

Sumaiya's grandfather, former councilor of Kuliarchar municipality Helal Uddin Bhuiyan said that on Sunday afternoon, 4/5 friends including Sumaiya went down to the canal to bathe in the water of Mohsin canal behind their house. 

Not knowing how to swim, Sumaiya suddenly drowned. Others reported to her home without seeing Sumaiya   with them in the canal water. Upon receiving the news, the family members rescued her from the canal with water in her stomach and took her to Bhagalpur Zahurul Islam Medical College and Hospital.

The doctor on duty at the hospital, after an examination, declared Sumaiya dead. Sumaiya's death has cast a shadow of mourning over the area.  Kuliarchar Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abdul Hai Talukder confirmed this.
