Coast Guard rescues 58 Rohingyas while being trafficked to Malaysia

A team of Bangladesh Coast Guard rescued 58 Rohingya citizens and 2 alleged traffickers at the coast of Saint Martin’s island in Cox’s Bazar on Thursday.

It was known that, the Rohingya people was trafficked onto the trawler and was being trafficked to Malaysia. When the foods of the trawler became finished, the trawler waited near the coast of Saint Martins’ island for another Malaysia bound trawler.  

Being tipped off, Coast Gaurd conducted a drive and detained the Rohingyas from a trawler.

Of the detainees, 20 are males, 28 are females and 10 children, all aged below 10.

Sources said, the Rohingyas were sent to Kutupalong camp and the alleged tow traffickers were handed over to Teknaf police.
