Chittagong Metropolitan Police (CMP) Counter Terrorism Unit with 9 trained dogs brought from the Netherlands is being launched for the first time 'Dog Squad'. Dog Squad handling dogs are brought to CMP. It will make its official debut on Sunday.
According to CMP, if it is launched, the security system of various important installations of the city including Chittagong port and Karnaphuli tunnel can be ensured with prevention of drug trafficking, explosive detection. Already 27 members of Chittagong City Police are undergoing training in Dhaka to manage this squad. This unit will be headed by an Assistant Commissioner of Counter Terrorism Department. A modern two-storied building with 10 kennels was constructed for the maintenance of Dog Squad at CMP's Mansurabad Police Line. There are dog care centers, grooming spaces, kitchens, bathing facilities, open fields for regular training and specialized training facilities. The building has round the clock CCTV monitoring system. There are currently 27 manpower to manage Dog Squad (Canine unit). Who received training from Netherlands and DMP, Dhaka. The trained dogs were brought from the Netherlands.
They were attached to Dhaka Metropolitan Police for so long.
On December 20, 9 dogs were sent to CMP. Of these, four have special training in explosives and five in drug detection.
CMP's Counter Terrorism Unit Deputy Police Commissioner Liaquat Ali said that the dogs can easily identify narcotics and explosives. CMP's dog squad consists of 9 dogs specially skilled and trained in drug and explosive detection.
This squad will be under the Counter Terrorism Unit of CMP. Canine unit will work like bomb disposal unit SWAT. With the addition of dog squad, action against drugs and explosives will be more dynamic.
It known that since the formation of Counter Terrorism Unit of Chittagong Metropolitan Police in 2018, SWAT, BDU, Cyber Team, Intelligence Team have been working tirelessly to control the militancy, explosive disposal, cyber and digital crime in the metropolis.
