A special unit has been launched for stroke patients at Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH). CMCH Director Brigadier General SM Humayun Kabir inaugurated the 12-bed unit in the Neurology Department of CMCH on Tuesday.
Head Professor of Neurology Dr. Md. Hasanuzzaman presided over the function. Dr. Mahbubul Alam Khandaker, Assistant Professor, Department of Neurology conducted the meeting.
Principal of Chattogram Medical College Prof Dr Sahena Akhter, Department of Medicine Prof Dr MA Hasan Chowdhury, Head of the Department of Radiology Prof Dr Subhash Majumder, Head of the Department of Neuro Surgery Prof Dr SM Noman Khaled Chowdhury and Head of the Department of Physical Medicine Dr Shawkat Hossain spoke on the occasion.

Brigadier General SM Humayun Kabir said that Stroke Ward patients will get better medical care. After the Neuroscience Institute in Dhaka, this unit was officially launched in CMC Hospital in Bangladesh. Due to lack of space in the neurology ward, patients often have to be admitted on the verandah. It was inhumane but we had nothing to do. Attempts will be made to increase the number of beds in this ward day by day.
It is learned that now the unit will be run with the manpower of the neurology department of the hospital and some other departments. The increasing the beds, manpower will also be recruited. This unit has been named after Dr Md Wahidur Rahman, a student of the hospital who was died in a road accident.
