Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni has said that the closure of the educational institutions will not be extended further.

The Minister was speaking as the chief guest at the award distribution ceremony among the winners of Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP) International Model Conference in Dhaka on Saturday.

She said the decision in this regard would be taken at a meeting with the advisory expert committee considering the corona virus situation.

The educational institutions have been closed since January 21 due to the uptrend of the corona virus situation. At another function Dipu Moni said the new national curriculum has been designed in way so it will be enjoyable for the students lessening burdens of exams and memorizing.

"(As per the curriculum), the students will be able to learn through self-practicing, experiment, community engagement and group working in classes in an enjoyable environment," she said.

The minister came up with the remarks while she was virtually addressing a programme at the National Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) in the city.

Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hassan Chowdhury also addressed the programme organized by the NCTB to apprise the journalists about the new curriculum with its Chairman (in charge) Professor Md Moshiuzzaman in the chair.

Dipu Moni said the students who will study under the new curriculum will be able to apply their acquired knowledge in their practical life.

"We are working to make our students compatible with the new demand of knowledge in the future world. We want to create an opportunity for all so they can learn with enjoyment," she added.

Curriculum Development and Review Core Committee (CDRCC), which was tasked to formulate the new curriculum in line with the NCTB Act 2018 and National Curriculum Policy Framework (NCPF) 2017, members, including Muhammed Dr Zafar Iqbal and Syed Manjurul Islam, Professor Nisar Hossain, Dr Lafifa Jamal and Dr Md Abdul Hakim Khan, spoke on the occasion.

Additional Secretary of the Secondary and Higher Education Division Dr Syed Emamul Hossain, NCTB members Professor Md Farhadul Islam and Professor Dr AKM Reazul Hassan, and Secretary Moss Nazma Akther were present at the event, among others.

The educationists said that the new curriculum has emphasized on capacity-based learning, continuous assessment and overall records of performances instead of marksheets that would encourage the students in experience-based learning instead of memory-based one.

According to the NCTB officials, the piloting programme of the new national curriculum will begin at 62 educational institutions soon while no complete textbooks but learning materials for the first four months will be provided to the students involved in the trial phase.

Following the feedback from the students and the teachers of the schools where the piloting programme will be run, the textbooks will be developed after revising the materials.

However, textbooks would be developed for all schools across the country for the academic session 2023.
