Class-three government employees demanded a 60 per cent increase in the interim salary until the new national pay scale is approved.
The government employees under the banner of ‘Bangladesh Class-Three Government Employees Association’ raised the demand through a press conference held at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) on Saturday (May 21).
Secretary General of the association Md Salzar Rahman read out the written statement at the press conference, in presence of its president Md Lutfar Rahman and executive president Nurunnabi.
In the written statement, Md Salzar Rahman pointed out logics and grounds in favour of their demand. He announced action programme to realize the demand.
It was said in the press conference that the Bangladesh Class-Three Government Employees’ Association would submit a memorandum to the Prime Minister on May 24 in favour of their demand. Rallies will be held in various departments and institutions in the capital, administrative divisions and districts from May 26 to June 9 to realize the demand. If the demand is not met within that time, a human chain will be formed in front of the National Press Club in the capital on June 11.
Md Salzar Rahman said that prices of essential commodities, including gas, electricity, water and medical expenses, have risen dramatically in the last seven years since the latest national pay scale was introduced in 2015. As a result, the livelihood of low-income government employees has become difficult. Against this backdrop, it is essential to offer a new national pay scale.
“However, until the new pay scale is given, we call upon the government to increase the salary of class-three government employees by 60 per cent for the interim period,” he added.
The Bangladesh association demanded medical allowance of Tk. 4000. The association also demanded class-two rank including pay scales for chief assistants, high-ranking assistants, stenographers, computer operators and storekeepers working at non-secretarial departments, directorates, agencies, offices of divisional commissioners and deputy commissioners. The class-two rank was also demanded for diploma nurses and equivalent qualified diploma health technologists and pharmacists.
