Supporters of the losing team attacked the winning team in the national summer football match in Mirsarai Upazila of Chattogram district. 3 players of the victorious team were seriously injured.
The incident took place at the Upazila Stadium on Saturday at noon.
The injured players are Noman (16), Shravan (16), Deepen Dey (17), students of class 10 of Karerhat Kamini Majumdar High School. They have been sent from Upazila Health Complex to Chittagong Medical College Hospital for treatment.
It has been reported that in the 49th summer national sports competition, the knockout phase of the football tournament is going on with different school-based teams of Mirsarai upazila. Karhat Kamini Majumdar High School defeated Mirsrai Pilot High School 2-0 in the semi-final of the game on Saturday morning. Several players including 3 players of the winning team were injured in the attack by the fans of the losing team after the match.
Sports teacher Palash Mallick of Kerhat Kamini Majumdar High School said, 'We will come home from the field cheering after winning. The fans suddenly pounced on us and started beating us. Three people including our goalkeeper Deepen Dey were seriously injured. We demand exemplary punishment for the guilty.'
Kabir Hossain, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Mirsrai Police Station said, "We have received reports of a minor scuffle between the players of the two teams outside the playground. Before anything major happened, the police reached the spot and brought the situation under control.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Minhazur Rahman said, I heard the fight after the game.
Quick action will be taken against the attackers.
