CJ, two more advisers take oath

Newly appointed Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and two more advisers to the interim government-- Supradeep Chakma and Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar-- took oath at the Durbar Hall of Bangabhaban on Sunday.

Thirteen advisers to the interim government headed by Nobel Laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus took oath earlier on Friday last.

The Cabinet Division also distributed the portfolios of two new advisers to the interim government on Sunday.

Of the two advisers, Supradeep Chakma has been given the charge of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Ministry while Dr Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar has been given Primary and Mass Education Ministry. 

The Cabinet Division issued a notification in this regard on Sunday.

Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed sworn in as 25th CJ

High Court (HC) Judge Syed Refaat Ahmed was sworn in as the 25th Chief Justice (CJ) of Bangladesh on Sunday as President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office during a ceremony at Durbar Hall of the Bangabhaban at 12:48 pm in the capital city of Dhaka.

Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Nobel Laureate Prof Dr Muhammad Yunus witnessed the ceremony.

Advisers to the interim government, judges, chiefs of the three services, attorney general, and Supreme Court (SC) lawyers, including SC Bar Association leaders, among others, were present at the oath-taking ceremony.

Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain conducted the function.

Earlier, President Shahabuddin appointed HC Judge Syed Refaat Ahmed as new CJ last evening as Obaidul Hassan stepped down from the post of chief justice at 2:30 pm yesterday.

"Under the authority bestowed upon him under Article 95 (1) of the Constitution, the president has appointed High Court's judge Syed Refaat Ahmed as the Chief Justice on Saturday evening," President Press Secretary Md Joynal Abedin told BSS on Saturday.

The appointment would come into effect from the day of his oath of office, he said.

Two more advisers to interim government sworn-in

President Mohammed Shahabuddin administered the oath of office of the newly appointed two advisers while Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Dr. Muhammad Yunus witnessed the ceremony at Durbar Hall of the Bangabhaban in the capital city of Dhaka.

The two advisers are former Ambassador and Chairman of the Chattogram Hill Tracts Development Board Suprodip Chakma and former director of the National Institute of Mental Health Dr. Bidhan Ranjan Roy Poddar.

Earlier, 13 out of 17 members of the advisers' council of the interim government took oath on Thursday last.

Another adviser Navy Commando and valiant Freedom Fighter Farooq-e Azam, Bir Pratik, could not take oath as he was outside of the capital by now.

However, the portfolios of the newly sworn-in advisers will be disclosed later, said an official of the cabinet division.

Cabinet Secretary Md Mahbub Hossain conducted the oath-taking ceremony.

After the oath-taking ceremony, the two advisers signed the oath of secrecy.
