Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Muhammad Faruk Khan has ordered the quick clearance of cargos, which have been lying in Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport and in the import cargo village for a long time after importing goods.
He gave this order at a meeting held in the airport in Dhaka on Saturday, said a press release.
The minister also said all the cargoes should be disposed of quickly from the airport through auctions following a lawful process.
The Civil Aviation Authority, Dhaka Customs House, Biman Bangladesh Airlines, banks concerned and clearing and forwarding agents should work through coordination to ensure speedy clearance of imported goods, Faruk Khan said.
No one's negligence would be tolerated in this regard, he warned.
If an importer did not release imported goods within the scheduled time, the matter should be settled through legal proceeding, he added.
Chairman of the National Board of Revenue Abu Hena Md. Rahmatul Muneem, Secretary of Civil Aviation and Tourism Ministry Md Mokammel Hossain, Chairman of Civil Aviation Authority Air Commodore Sadikur Rahman Chowdhury Chairman, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Biman Bangladesh Airlines Zahidul Islam Bhuiyan, and Executive Director of Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport Group Captain Muhammed Kamrul Islam were present at the meeting.
After the meeting, Faruk Khan visited the Baggage Area, Lost and Found Branch and the Import Cargo Village of the airport.
