Chuadanga Free Day observed

Chuadanga Free Day was observed under the auspices of District Awami League (AL) and its front organisations. The programmes included -hoisting of national flag and party flags, placing wreaths at 8 martyred Freedom Fighters graveyard, discussions and doa mohfil.

A discussion was held on the premises of Aatkabar in Damurhuda Upazila of the district with Solaiman Hoque Joarder Selun, President of District AL, in the chair.  The meeting was addressed, among others, by AL leaders Riajul Islam Toton, Munsi Alamgir  Hannan and Abdul Kader. 

A doa mahfil was organized day seeking eternal peace of martyred freedom fighters' soul. Besides, a special munajat was also offered for progress of the nation.

Freedom fighters, Mitro Bahini (Allied Forces) and other independence forces started fighting against the occupation army of Pakistan from April 16, 1971 and achieved victory on December 7, 1971. In this period 21 freedom fighters, and hundreds of common people were killed by the Pak army in Chuadanga. 

After independence of Bangladesh monuments, mass graveyards and Muktizoddha Complex have been built during Awami League government’s tenures. 

Upazila and Thana-wise martyred freedom fighters are -- one in Sadar upazila, eight in Damurhuda upazila, four in Alamdanga upazila, five in Jibannagar upazila and three in Darshana Thana. 

Mohammad Ali, a journalist of Chaudanga, was dragged away from his town residence in the town in 71 war by Pakistani Army but he did not return to his residence. Family members of Mohammad Ali said, he was killed by Pakistani Army. 

On August 5, 1971 a gunbattle occurred between the freedom fighters and the Pakistani Army at Jogonnathpur-Rotonpur village in Damurhuda upazila of the district. Freedom fighters Kiamuddin, Hasanuzzaman, Abul Kashem, Rowsan Ali, Robiul Islam, Alaul Islam Khokon, Afazuddin and Tareq Rahman were killed by the pak army. They were buried there. A monument was built at village Natudah in Damurhuda upazila.  Freedom fighter Khondokar Jamsed was killed at village Sukcha in Alamdanga upazila on August 13. Pakistani Army killed freedom fighters Mollah Abul Hossin Nannu, Khandokar Ashraful Hoque Anu and Ansar Ali in Alamdanga town on November 12, 1971. A monument was made in honour of them on the premises of Alamdanga upazila parishad. Habildar Abdul Gofur, Nayek Abdur Rashid, Sipali Abu Bakar, Sipahi Abdul Aziz and Sipahi Siddik Ali were martyred at village Dhupakhali in Jibanngar upazila on August 7, 1071. They have been buried at the village Madhopkhali and protected it to construct boundary walls in 2018. There is a sign board inscribed their names. 

Lutafan Hossain Joarder, Rofiqul Islam and Nasiruddin are martyred freedom fighters. They were killed at village Ramnagar in Darshana Thana on December 4, 1971.  A memorial has been erected on the campus of Darshana Government College. 

A muktizuddho Bhabon has been built at village Natudah in Damuhuda upazila of the district for keeping independence war documents. Huge visitors are visiting there.  The complex was inaugurated by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in 2018.

The present government has made genocide graveyard in Alamdanga upazila town of the district as killing witnesses of independence war in 2012. Over 2,00,000 common people were buried there in 1971.

District Awami League, Upazila Awamileague, Cultural Organizations and Muktizoddha Sangsad have taken various program including hosting of national flag, placing wreaths, rallies, discussion meetings and doa mohfils.
