Members of Christian community celebrated the Christmas Day, the largest religious festival of the community, on Wednesday in the country commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.
Decoration of Christmas trees with colourful lights, special prayers, distribution of gifts among children, and exchange of pleasantries were the main features of the day’s festivities. Our Correspondents from various districts sent reports on the issue.
In Rajshahi, the day was celebrated in the district with much enthusiasm and festive mood, reports our Rajshahi Correspondent. A large number of Christians rushed to the nearby churches to offer prayers. Marking the day, a special prayer was organised at city church at 7.30 in the morning.
Earlier on Tuesday night, midnight prayer was arranged at Baganpara Church from 6:00 pm to 11:00 pm.
On the other hand, one and a half hour long special prayers program was organized at Court Mission Church at 9.30 am today followed by friendly feast at noon.
Besides, special prayers were offered at different churches in the city including Dingadoba Church commemorating Jesus Christ along with seeking peace, progress and prosperity of the world including Bangladesh. Marking the great celebration, the city’s churches were decorated and illuminated.
Local dignitaries and professional leaders accompanied by others visited various celebrating sites of the city and exchanged pleasantries with them.
In Gopalganj, a grand meal was hosted by the Church community marking the day, reports our District Correspondent.
Members of the Christian community in the district decorated an evergreen pine tree with colourful lights and glittery ornaments, with a huge star or an angel on top. They visited churches and take part in special services and sing carols on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. They also gave generously to charity and those less fortunate. The young people arranged some cultural functions in the district town where people of all ages will take part.
Gopalganj Christian fellowship president Reva Samuel said the Christian community of district celebrated the day at 149 churches with festive mood. Deputy Commissioner Shahida Sultna wishes a Happy Christmas to everyone celebrating in the district.
In Bogura, the Christmas Day was celebrated in a befitting manner in Bogura district, reports our district correspondent.
Robert Robin Marandi, a leader of Christian community in Bogura said his greetings on this occasion.
The day was celebrated amid different festive activities in the district. After saying prayer, sweets were distributed among people present there.
In Rangpur, the Christian community celebrated the day with prayers, recitation from the holy Bible, carol singing, exchanging pleasantries, cutting Christmas cakes, decoration of Xmas trees at Sadar Baptists Church and other churches in different places.
The Christian community people decorated the churches with tiny blinking lights and illuminated Christmas trees and special dishes were prepared in their families and the children were seen seeking blessings from their parents, relatives and elders.
In their welcome speeches, the Christian religious leaders greeted the community people and invited guests at different churches since the morning.
The authorities of Rangpur Sadar Baptists Church, Balapara AG Church in Mithapukur upazila, Taraganj Church and Jihori Samos Church arranged different day-long colourful programs, including discussions.
Father of Sadar Baptists Church Reverend Barnobas Hembrom, Pastor of Balapara AG Church Babul Roy and the Christian community leaders participated in the Christmas cake cutting ceremonies along with their community people.
Special prayers were offered at the churches seeking divine blessings for the welfare, peace and prosperity of the country, its people and humanity as a whole.
In Sherpur, the Holy Christmas Day was celebrated amid grand festivities in the district, reports our Sherpur Correspondent.
On the occasion, a delightful atmosphere was prevailing at different Christian Missionaries and Churches.
Almost 20 thousand Christians around the district celebrated the day through festive activities in the existing 29 Churches in the district. Churches and houses were also decorated nicely for the occasion.
Strict Security measures were taken by law enforcement forces in the district to ensure peaceful celebration of the day.
