Chittagong University starts classes without dope test

Chittagong University (CU) has started its academic year 2023-24 without conducting the planned dope test for new students. Classes will begin on June 30. This decision comes despite earlier plans to introduce dope tests during the final admission process.

The idea of a dope test was first introduced at a deans committee meeting on May 5. The meeting was chaired by Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Abu Taher. The purpose of the dope test was to take a stand against drug use among students. It was decided that if a student tested positive, they would not be allowed to complete their admission.

However, the final admission process for new students has been completed without any dope tests. This means that no student was tested for drug use before being admitted to the university.

Classes for the new academic year will start as scheduled on June 30. Despite the initial plans, the dope test program has not been implemented yet.

This situation has raised questions about the university's commitment to addressing drug use among students. The initial decision to conduct dope tests was seen as a positive step. However, the failure to follow through with this plan may affect the university's efforts to maintain a drug-free environment.

As classes begin, it remains unclear whether the university will revisit the idea of dope tests in the future. For now, students will start their academic year without undergoing any drug testing.
