Chittagong University honours 30 freedom fighters

Great Independence and National Day-2024 2024 were celebrated in Chittagong University by honouring the brave freedom fighters.

Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher and CU Pro Vice-Chancellors paid tribute to the martyrs by placing wreaths at the Independence Monument on Tuesday morning.  Tributes were paid by laying wreaths on behalf of various CU councils.

Later, a colourful rally led by the CU Vice-Chancellor started from Independence Monument Square and ended at CU Bangabandhu Square.  After that, the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, paid tribute by placing wreaths on his portrait and holding a discussion meeting.

The program was chaired by Chittagong University Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Abu Taher.  CU Pro Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Benu Kumar Dey and Pro Vice-Chancellor (Adminis­tration) Prof. Dr. Md. Sekander Chowdhury addressed the event.  Chittagong University felicitated 30 brave freedom fighters in recognition of their unique contribution to the motherland in the great liberation war.

CU VC said, “On the dark night of March 25, 1971, Pakistani invading forces barbarically pounced on the unarmed Bengalis and started an indiscriminate massacre. On March 26, the undisputed leader of Bengali Banga­bandhu, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, called and under his hypnotic 

leadership, the people of all walks of life united, regardless of caste, religion, and caste participated in the liberation war.” 

He also said, the independence of Bangladesh was achieved by defeating the Pakistani invaders through a long, bloody struggle of 9 months, and the independent and sovereign state of Bangladesh appeared on the world map.  The people of Bengal get an independent land, a red and green flag, a map, and A proud identity to stand tall in the world.  The motto of freedom achieved under the leadership of Bangabandhu motivates us even today to be fearless warriors, to sacrifice ourselves for nation-building.

The brave freedom fighters were felicitated by the university with flowers, crests, and gifts. Madhumita Baidya and Mohammad Enamul Haque spoke on behalf of the brave freedom fighters in the awarding ceremony. 

The valorous freedom fighters and their family members were present in the honouring ceremony.
