The Chittagong Science Carnival was held for the second time at the CU Faculty of Social Sciences auditorium on Thursday at the initiative of Chittagong University Scientific Society (CUSS).
Chittagong University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr Shirin Akhter inaugurated the program as the chief guest. CU PRO Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Benu Kumar Dey, Professor Dr Mohammad Nasim Hasan, Dean, Faculty of Science, Professor Siraj Ud Daullah, Dean, Faculty of Social Sciences, Professor Dr Rashed Mostafa, Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Dr Basna Muhuri, Chittagong Regional Director of the Environment Department Mufidul Alam. The keynote speaker was UGC Secretary of Bangladesh Academy of Sciences Professor Dr Hasina Khan. CUSS Advisor and Carnival Convenor Professor Dr Mohammad Al Forkan, CUSS Advisor and Carnival Member-Secretary, General Secretary of the Department of Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, Dr Welcoming remarks were made by Md. Abdur Rahman Apu, Founding Member of CUSS.
CU Vice-Chancellor said, now is the age of science; There is no substitute for practicing science to conquer the world. Modern science will play an important role in enriching the scope of up-to-date knowledge of students, especially in the face of the new challenges of today's world; As well as helping them to become qualified human resources with multi-dimensional skills.
She said that such an event would encourage the students in science education as well as inspire their talents towards new discoveries which would contribute to the development and prosperity of the country and the nation. She called upon the teachers and researchers to make the children of this generation proficient in all branches of science including modern information technology. Later, CU Vice-Chancellor along with the guests toured the projects displayed at the carnival and exchanged greetings with the participants.
The day-long Science Carnival features poster and project presentations, hackathon, robot soccer competition, science lectures, cancer seminars and pop quiz competitions. School, college and university students as well as professionals have participated in it. Around 800 students and professionals from various educational institutions across the country participated in it. Prizes and cash prizes were given to 3 winners in each segment.
