Popular band Chirkut was awarded the title of Best Band at the 18th Sunsilk-Channel i Music Awards. Celebrated musician Manam Ahmed presented the award to the band members during a ceremony held at a five-star hotel in the capital on Wednesday.
The band received this prestigious recognition in honour of their outstanding contributions, both nationally and internationally, throughout the year. Their song ‘Khalas’ from the album ‘Matigithi’ played a significant role in securing this award.
Expressing their gratitude, Sharmin Sultana Sumi, the lead vocalist of Chirkut, said, “This marks the third time we have received this special award. It's an electrifying feeling, akin to a refreshing stream flowing down one's spine. It's like basking in the sun after a long and challenging journey, and it's an affirmation of the love we receive from our countless fans.”
She added, “Gratitude to the Almighty is paramount. We extend special thanks to Channel i for once again deeming us worthy of this prestigious recognition. Our heartfelt appreciation goes out to the legendary musician Manam Ahmed for presenting us with the award.”
Chirkut dedicated their achievement to their fans, and they also remembered one of the pioneers of Bangladeshi band music, the legendary Ayub Bachchu, on the fifth anniversary of his passing.
The event featured awards in 22 different categories, including the Lifetime Achievement Award. Shujeo Shyam, an artist at the Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra and a recipient of the Bangladesh National Film Award, received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award.
The event also included captivating performances by the Chirkut band, featuring some of their popular songs along with choreographed dance performances.
The Sunsilk-Channel i Music Awards, one of the most prestigious music events in South Asia, was initiated in 2004 with the primary objective of promoting the appreciation of wholesome music in Bangladesh.
