China will send 600,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to Bangladesh as a gift, Foreign Minister Dr AK Abdul Momen said as Dhaka is expanding its sources to secure the vaccine against the pandemic virus.
“We’ll get 6 lac doses as a gift,” he told reporters on Thursday.
Besides, he said Bangladesh is also thinking to allow Chinese vaccines in the country.
“We get pressure from our students and businessmen to allow Chinese vaccines,” he said, explaining that those who study in China and do businesses there want to take the Chinese vaccine to go there easily amid the pandemic.
Last month, Beijing adopted a new policy to make it easier for foreigners to apply for a visa to China if they had received a Chinese vaccine.
Bangladesh is using the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine for the country-wide campaign. However, the government is now exploring other options to meet the local demand.
