Dr Samanta Lal Sen, Head of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, said China had initially chosen a site for a 100-bed separate burn and plastic surgery hospital in Chattogram.
He said that authorities have been trying for 15 years to set up a specialized burn hospital in Chattogram. There was a problem with the location of the hospital in Chattogram. Now 4 new places have been fixed. One of them is the choice of money-lending China.
The site was identified for a 100-bed hospital in the Guachi Garden area next to the main medical dormitory. Their representative from China will come soon, said Samanta Lal Sen.
Samanta Lal Sen said this at a press conference in the conference room of CMC Hospital on Monday afternoon. Earlier, he had inquired about the victims of the fire at BM Depot in Sitakunda.
‘I have discussed the matter with the ministry’, he added.
Samanta Lal Sen said three of the people who are now undergoing treatment are in critical condition. If their relatives agree, then authorities want to take them to Dhaka. Necessary treatment is being given in Chattogram. But there are not all kinds of facilities here. Burn patients’ ICU is different. Here, they are kept in the General ICU.
He said Chattogram does not have the infrastructure required for burn patients including ICU. However, the doctors of the burn unit are providing very good service.
Awami League office secretary Biplob Barua, Health secretary Rokeya Sultana and Hospital director Brigadier General Shamim Ahsan were present at the press conference.
Shamim Ahsan said 102 patients are currently undergoing treatment at Chittagong Medical College Hospital. Besides, 14 are undergoing treatment at CMHA, 2 at General Hospital and 11 at Private Hospital.
At the end of the press conference, Samanta Lal Sen visited the site chosen for the hospital in Guachi Bagan area.
