When protesters are staging demonstrations in Dhaka and elsewhere in the country demanding the resignation of President Mohammed Shahabuddin, two advisers of the interim government held a closed-door meeting with Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed.
Law Adviser Asif Nazrul and Information Adviser Nahid Islam held the closed-door meeting at the Chief Justice’s office in the Supreme Court on Tuesday.
Supreme Court’s registrar generalAziz Ahmed Bhuiyan confirmed the matter to the media.
According to reliable sources, the closed-door meeting of two influential advisers of the interim government with Chief Justice took place for about 40 minutes.
The sources said that the issue of resignation of the President was discussed in the meeting and who will be the next President if the President Mohammed Shahabuddin resigns.
After the meeting, the Chief Justice held meeting with the IGP,RAB DG and DMP Commissioner.
Since the demand for the President’s resignation has intensified, the interim government may again seek the opinion of the Supreme Court on the matter. In such a situation, two advisers held the closed-door meeting with the Chief Justice.
Earlier, an opinion from the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court was sought before forming the interim government led by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus.
