As part of the education support initiative under corporate social responsibility programmes, Chevron Bangladesh recently distributed school implements such as bags, uniforms and footwear to 278 marginalized children of nine schools in the capital.

These children, 5 to 14 years old, are from nine charity schools located at different areas in Dhaka. Collectively known as “Kushum Koli” schools – administered by the Dhaka Ladies Club’s Social Welfare Committee and founded in 1985, these schools follow the curriculum mandated by the Directorate of Primary Education.  The distribution ceremony, in which students received school uniforms, bags, footwear and stationery items, was held at the premises of the Dhaka Ladies Club in Eskaton Gardens.

Foreign Minister Dr. A.K. Abdul Momen attended the programme as chief guest while US ambassador to Bangladesh Earl Robert Miller and President of Chevron Bangladesh Neil Menzies were present as special guests. Chevron’s Director of Corporate Affairs Ismail Chowdhury and President of Dhaka Ladies Club Mahbuba Kabir Rumjhum, among others, attended the programme.

Foreign Minister Dr. Momen lauded Chevron’s corporate social responsibility efforts in this regard and expressed his fervent hope that such social investments would continue in the same vein in future.

Chevron Bangladesh president Menzies said, “At Chevron, we value our partnership with the communities in which we operate and seek to support their development through social investment in three main areas: education, health and economic development; where we partner with world-class development organizations to improve the lives of these communities. We believe that education and job training are of critical importance to help people and communities thrive.”  Dhaka Ladies Club president Mahbuba Kabir said, “Chevron supported us with blankets and warm clothing for our students in last winter.  Now they have stepped forward again by supporting the children with school implements. We thank Chevron for their generosity and thoughtful donation.”
