Chattogram Mass Killing Day was observed here Thursday paying glowing tributes to those who were martyred on this day in 1988.
On this day, as many as 24 people were killed and over 200 others injured when police opened fire on a mammoth public rally of the then chief of the 15-party alliance Sheikh Hasina at Laldighi Maidan. Different organisations observed the day through elaborating different programmes which were included placing of wreaths at the monument at the court building, memorial meeting and photographic exhibition.
Leaders of Bangladesh Awami League, city, Chattogram district north and south chapters placed wreaths at the monument this morning.
City Awami League President Mahtab Uddin Chowdhurty, its vice President Khurshed Alam Sujan, general Secretary former City mayor AJM Nasir Uddin, Chattogram South District AL President Motherul Islam Chowdhury MP,its general Secretary Mofizur Rahman, Chattogram North district President M A Salam, its general Secretary Sheikh Ataur Rahman, Public Prosecutor of Chattogram Advocate Sheikh Iftakher Saimul Chowdhury, leaders of Sammilito Peshajibi Parishad, Chattogram District Bar Association, Bangabandhu Parishad, Bangladesh Mohila Awami League, Muktijoddha Chhatra Command and Bangabandhu Sangskritik Jote also placed wreaths at the memorial.
