Chattogram DC starts fire prevention campaign, fines shop owners

Chattogram deputy commissioner conducted operations in different places of the city to prevent fire accidents.  During this time, several organizations were fined three lakh taka for various reasons including not having fire service license and sufficient fire extinguishers.

 The operation was conducted in Jahur hawkers market and Agrabad areas of the city under the leadership of four executive magistrates of the district administration from 1 pm in Somna.

 According to district administration sources, Executive Magistrate Prateek Datta conducted raids in the risky markets of Agrabad and Patenga areas.

 Islami Bank Hospital was fined Tk 2 lakh for lack of fire safety plan and Tech Sodice Corporation was fined Tk 2 lakh for lack of license period.

 On the other hand, Executive Magistrate Md. Tauhidul Islam conducted a raid at Jahur Hawkers Market in Kotwali of the city.

 There are about 1,200 risky shops in the area from the Cinema Palace end to the Newmarket end.  These shops do not have fire service license.

  There is no fire extinguisher.  Therefore the Market Committee is directed to install adequate fire extinguishers in every shop within the next three working days.

 Nandankanan Fire Station Manager Mohammad Ali and Fire Inspector Shamsul Alam were present in the operation.

 The fire service has identified electrical lines in Jahore hawkers market as dangerous.  The mobile court ordered the market committee to coordinate with the fire service and PDB to immediately de-risk the electric lines.  The market committee was fined Tk 5,000 for putting the entire market at risk by creating a parking area in the fire assembly area of the market.

 The Executive Magistrate of Chattogram District Administration said that operations have been conducted in different places of the city to prevent fire accidents.  During this time, several organizations were fined three lakh taka for various reasons including not having fire service license and sufficient fire extinguishers.

 Its mentioned that there was a fire incident in Jahur hawkers market in 2021 as well.  As per the recommendation of that accident, the construction of water reservoir is to be done but there is no visible progress yet.
