Solar panels need sunlight to work, but the Shine 2.0 portable wind turbine requires just a light breeze. This innovative device can start generating power with winds as low as eight miles per hour, making it perfect for outdoor adventures.

Currently available for preorder on Kickstarter, the Shine 2.0 offers discounts from its retail price of $571. This upgraded version of the company’s earlier turbine includes significant enhancements that campers and travellers will appreciate.

Standing three feet tall, the Shine 2.0 comes with support and stability cables for easy setup and takedown. When compacted, it fits into a backpack and is roughly the size of a water bottle, weighing only three pounds.

The turbine can generate power with wind speeds ranging from eight to 28 miles per hour. At maximum speed, it produces up to 50 watts of power, enough to fully charge a laptop in about two hours. However, at minimum wind speeds, it generates less than 5 watts, which would take around 11 hours to charge a smartphone.

While it may not be the most efficient option on the market, the Shine 2.0 is an excellent choice for those seeking a reliable power source that doesn't depend on sunny weather. Just be sure to assess your power needs before making a decision.
