In the month of January-June of the current financial year 2021-22, 6 state-owned banks in Chandpur have received foreign remittances of Tk 631.93 crore from 3 lakh 75 thousand expatriates.
The information was received from the respective regional offices of the 6 state-owned banks in Chandpur on Sunday, July 3 from the regional offices of all the banks concerned.
According to the information received, foreign remittance of Tk 135.96 crore in 20 branches of Sonali Bank in 2021-22, foreign remittance of Tk 98 crore in 15 branches of Janata Bank, Tk 213.69 crore in 21 branches of Agrani Bank, 26 branches of Bangladesh Krishi Bank (June- July) 122 crore, 13 crore branches of Rupali Bank received 72 crore 7 lakh foreign remittances.
Agrani Bank officials said, "Especially in the villages of Chandpur, due to the remittances sent by the expatriates, there are beautiful buildings in every house." Agrani Bank works with sufficient sincerity for their overall transactions. In addition, they have a significant contribution to the national GDP. ’
He further said, "Expatriates have contributed to fulfill the dream of Hon'ble Prime Minister Bangabandhu's daughter Sheikh Hasina 'Village will be City'." Reserves are growing in our GDP. . '
Rupak Kumar Rakshit, Deputy General Manager, Rupali Bank, established in Chandpur in the current financial year, said, "Remittances are the key to our country's economic development. Incidentally, remittances sent by Chandpur expatriates in return for their labor are creating liquidity in more than two hundred bank branches and a few hundred shopping malls in the district.
The foreign remittances of the expatriates in the district have changed the picture in terms of their own houses or buildings, business, education, agriculture, development of infrastructure in their respective areas, infrastructural development of mosques, madrasas and orphanages.
According to the Chandpur Manpower and Employment Bureau, there are 12 million Bangladeshi expatriates in 162 countries of the world. Chandpur ranks 6th among other districts of the country in terms of expatriates.
According to sources in the Chandpur Manpower and Employment Office, 3 lakh 65 thousand legitimate Chandpur workers in different countries of the world, including the Middle East, send remittances from their workplaces to their nearest relatives through banks and other agencies.
Illegal or development or otherwise there are many more remittances acquired which no statistics could be known.
The country's reserves of foreign remittances sent by expatriates are increasing. Employment creation and socio-economic conditions are improving. Each foreign remittance desk and help desk of some banks have been opened to provide services separately.
