The crop fields of Chalanbeel are now full of mesmerizing yellow mustard flowers as mustard has been planted in almost every field in the area.
Farmers have planted mustard this year, ignoring the adverse weather. Farmers and Upazila Agriculture Department are hoping for bumper yield of mustard this time as the weather had been favorable.
Mustard is likely to have bumper yields this year in Chalanbeel area consisting of Tarash and Ullapara upazilas of Sirajganj; Chatmohar and Bhangura upazilas of Pabna; Gurudaspur, Baraigram and Singra upazilas of Natore etc.
Various fields of Chalanbeel area have been visited on the spot by the correspondent. While visiting the fields he saw that the crop fields of Chalanbeel have become full of yellow mustard flowers. Blooms of mustard flowers have been stretched across the fields.
Within a few more days, mustard will go to the farmer's house after being harvested. At one time, farmers in Chalanbeel area only used to plant two crops, Iri and Boro paddies leaving thousands of hectares of fallow land.
Tarash Upazila Agriculture Officer Agriculturist Lutfunnahar Luna said farmers in the Chalanbeel area have developed tactics and are inclined to cultivate mustard due to increase in government facilities available in farming this crop. Moreover, as this farming provides low cost and high profit they are becoming more interested in mustard farming. So they are growing Iri, Boro, Aman paddies, maize, garlic, watermelon as well as mustard with much enthusiasm.
Mustard has been planted in about 20,000 hectares of land in nine upazilas of Chalanbeel region this year.
