Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) and district administration have jointly launched an awareness campaign to create awareness among traders living illegally in commercial buildings in the city’s Riazuddin Bazar.
During the campaign, loudspeakers were used to create awareness while leaflets were also distributed among people on Wednesday morning. The campaign was carried out under the instructions of CDA Chairman Mohammad Yunus.
The awareness campaign was conducted under the leadership of district administration’s Assistant Commissioner (land) AFM Shamim and authorised officer of CDA Tanjib Hossain
At this time, it was informed to all by miking that people are living illegally on the upper floors of existing commercial buildings in Riazuddin Bazar, Tamakundi Lane and adjacent areas, and the CDA and district administration have come to know such thing after the recent fire incident. As a result, the fear of loss of life and property in fire or any natural disaster is increasing. Therefore, building owners and businessmen are requested to refrain from living illegally on the upper floors of commercial buildings to avoid accidents. Otherwise, CDA and district administration will jointly take legal action.
Leaflets containing fire safety guidelines were also distributed to create public awareness for avoiding accidents like fire.
CDA Assistant Authorised Officer Mohammad Osman, Assistant Authorised Officer Hamidul Haque, Senior Assistant Selim Uddin, Building Inspector Md Tofail Hossain, ASM Mizan, Saikat Chandra Pal, Gaurango Chandra Pal, Shahadat Hosain and Biman Barua, among others, were present.
From the statements of the leaders of Fire Service and Civil Defense Department and Tamakundi Lime Traders Association, it is known that 110 market buildings on Tamakundi Lane have not been constructed in compliance with the rules. Also, the report of the investigation committee formed by the CDA on the fire incident will be handed over to the chairman of the CDA next Thursday.
