CCCI leaders urge Vietnam to invest in blue-economy, agro-based industry

Vietnam trade delegation meets Chittagong Chamber leaders

Chattogram Chamber leaders urged the Vietnam to invest in the potential blue-economy sector of Bangladesh and the production of agro-based on the coastal and hilly areas of Chittagong.

The views were made in a meeting while the newly appointed Ambassador of Vietnam to Bangladesh Nguyen Manh Cuong business delegation met the leaders of the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) in an exchange meeting at the Bangabandhu Conference Hall at the World Trade Center on Sunday.

Vietnam Ambassador Nguyen Manh Cuong said that despite the disruption of global economic activities due to the Corona epidemic in the last two years, the trade relations between the two countries were stable.  

He said Bangladesh is Vietnam's second largest trading partner after India in South Asia.  From January to October this year, trade between the two countries was worth 883 million dollars, of which 90% was exported to Vietnam. 

Although Bangladesh's exports amount to 108 million dollars, it is two and a half times more than last year.  Chittagong Chamber can facilitate the cooperation and investment attraction of Vietnamese businessmen in Chittagong through coordination with relevant authorities.  

He assured to work with concerned authorities including Chittagong Chamber to create favourable environment for businessmen of both countries.

Chittagong Chamber President Omar Hazzaz presided over the meeting.  Chamber Directors Anjan Shekhar Das, Mahfuzul Haque Shah, Mohammad Monir Uddin, former Chamber Director SM Abu Taib, Bangladesh-Vietnam Chamber Director Anik Rashed Khan and members of the delegation spoke.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is building infrastructures in the region to make greater Chittagong as an international hub for business, investment and logistics, Chittagong Chamber President Omar Hazzaz said, calling for joint investment in non-leather sports footwear and motorcycle manufacturing sectors, including leather products.  

He emphasized on the exchange of trade delegations to identify potential sectors of both countries and to discuss them, establish communication between the chambers of the two countries, launch visa on arrival for Bangladeshis and direct flights.

Chamber Director Zahirul Islam Chowdhury (Alamgir), Benazir Chowdhury Nishan, Mahbubul Haque Miah, Mohammad Adnanul Islam, Omar Muktadir, Bangladesh-Vietnam Chamber Director Md. Abdus Sobahan, Vietnam Embassy and Chamber officials were present.
