Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) mayor Freedom Fighter Md Rezaul Karim Chowdhury inaugurated the work of installing LED lights on 66 km of roads across Chittagong city.
CCC Mayor inaugurated the installation of LED lights on 66 km roads across the city in the first phase of the Covid-19 recovery project in the court building Shaheed Minar premises on Wednesday afternoon.
CCC mayor said, “I have taken the initiative to light up the entire city. Initially, the work of installing LED lights on 66 km roads has started. The entire city will be illuminated gradually. In addition, lighting is also emphasized in aesthetics. The lights in the shape of butterflies and boats are adding a different dimension to the night beauty of the city.”
“But, in some areas the city dwellers are suffering due to its theft I want the cooperation of the city residents to prevent theft. Removing the mess of hanging wires in the city, I have taken it under the ground which is already hanging in Lalkhanbazar. Our goal is to take all of the city underground within a year and a half,” the mayor added.
Expressing his firm position to protect the sidewalks, the mayor said, "We have evicted the illegal sidewalk occupants in the public interest.
" A mahal is threatening agitation to create pressure to illegally occupy the road. Whose movement? What movement? Who gave them the right to occupy the public sidewalk? No matter how much you protest, I will not allow you to sit illegally on the pavement.” CCC Chief Executive Officer Sheikh Muhammad Tauhidul Islam, Chittagong District PP Sheikh Iftekhar Saimul Chowdhury,were present. Councillor Zahar Lal Hazari, Abdus Salam Masum, Nur Mostafa Tinu, Mayor's Private Secretary Abul Hashem, Chief Supervising Engineer of CCC Electricity Sub-Division Jhulan Kumar Das along with electricity officers of the department were present.
