Earlier this month, a project worth Tk 2,491 crore proposed by the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) was approved by the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC). The project also approved the construction of 38 foot-over bridges at risky road junctions in the city.
Earlier, a project to build a foot-over bridge was approved at a pre-ECNEC meeting in June last year. The CCC then prepares area-wise survey reports at key junctions. Once the project is approved, the CCC will build a foot-over bridge identifying the risky bends in the city.
This was stated by Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury when the authorities of Chattogram Drydock Limited visited the CCC office on Sunday.
CCC mayor said, "The city dwellers are suffering a lot due to the increase in traffic in the city.
The number of people killed and injured in road accidents is also increasing day by day. CCC has decided to build a foot-over bridge by identifying 38 spots in the city.”
However, after the mayor's statement, the Chattogram Drydock authorities also expressed interest in participating in the CCC development work and advised the mayor to send a proposal in the form of a report to the Drydock manager.
According to CCC sources, the feasibility study of foot-over bridges at several important corners of the city was carried out last year. According to the survey, 93.4 percent people are interested in using foot-over bridges at intersections.
