Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Mayor Freedom Fighter Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury commented that the people of Chattogram are grateful to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina for allocating a large amount for the development of Chattogram.
CCC mayor made this comment at the 24th general meeting of the elected 6th Parishad of Chattogram City Corporation on Sunday.
CCC Mayor said that the Prime Minister has taken extensive activities including the construction of flyovers from tunnels for the development of Chattogram. Especially after I took over as mayor, the prime minister allocated the highest project of 2.5 thousand crore taka in the history of CCC. If the ongoing projects including this project are completed, there will be a revolutionary change in Chattogram. The people of Chattogram are satisfied and grateful with the current development activities. I want to thank the Prime Minister on behalf of the people of Chattogram as a child and mayor of Chattogram.
Representatives of various government agencies of Chattogram related to CCC activities including panel mayor and councilors presented their statements.
He said, we have identified several reasons for the traffic congestion in Chattogram, including business by occupying the footpath, uncontrolled hawker business, illegal parking. To decongest the traffic, the Friday market i.e. hawkers may be allowed to do business at certain places two days a week on Friday and Saturday holidays. Apart from this, pay-parking i.e. parking for a fee will be introduced at certain places. We will close shops in passenger camps and stop encroachment of footpaths to stop passenger movement. Waste management is being modernized to make the city cleaner.
Calling for the coordination of CDA and CCC activities to reduce waterlogging, the Mayor said that in order to reduce waterlogging, the accumulated soil and dirt in canals and drains should be cleaned during the summer season, including digging from Boripara canal to Karnaphuli river. Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) is conducting the flood reduction project, the people of many areas of Chattogram are suffering due to the filling up of drains and canals with retaining walls. I have repeatedly asked the higher authorities of CDA including the CDA Chairman to arrange monsoon water movement in this project.
The councilors will inform me in the form of a report about the situation of the canals in the next 10 days.
Stating that the work is going on for the beautification of Chattogram, the mayor said that diversity is being given priority in the design of roads and flyovers to make Chattogram a beautiful city. Although billboards are under control everywhere in Chattogram city, the beauty of the city is being spoiled due to the posters. Actions have been taken to allocate specific places for posters to control chaos. Any unauthorized billboards will also be removed. In addition to increasing the illumination of the city, this year's Ekushey Book Fair is being organized in a bigger and more elaborate manner to boost the cultural activities.
"I would like to take CCC to the forefront to implement what the Honorable Prime Minister is fighting to build a smart Bangladesh. I request everyone's cooperation to increase the quality of CCC services and services along with respected councilors and service organizations to turn Chattogram into a healthy and clean model city free from waterlogging and traffic jams."
