Mayor of Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) Bir Muktijoddha Md. Rezaul Karim Chowdhury on Thursday has officially inaugurated the Failyatoli Kitchen Market, a project that cost Tk 17.18 crore and took 18 months to complete.
During the inauguration as the chief guest, CCC Mayor said, “The Failyatoli Bazar has been revamped into a modern kitchen market by CCC. This market will not only allow citizens to buy quality products at competitive prices but also provide employment for hundreds of traders.”
“This income-generating project is crucial for CCC’s financial stability. To address public concerns about holding tax, we formed six member boards and held public hearings at eight locations to assess taxes at reasonable rates. This initiative has alleviated dissatisfaction with property taxes, leading to increased revenue as people willingly pay their dues,” added the CCC Mayor.
Highlighting significant investments in Chattogram’s infrastructure, the Mayor mentioned that extensive investments are transforming Chattogram into a major hub for foreign investment. We expect that areas like Foylattali will no longer face the same waterlogging problems as before as Tk 2,500 crore investment to revamp the city's communication system and Tk 10,000 crore project to resolve waterlogging issues is being made.
According to the city corporation information, established in 1982, Foylattali Bazar has been essential for the residents of South Kattali and Halishahar for their daily shopping needs. The decision to construct a new market aimed to improve facilities, enhance quality, and increase CCC's revenue. The construction work began on July 15, 2019, and was completed nearly two years later, funded by the World Bank's Bangladesh Municipal Development Fund under the Municipal Governance and Services Project. CCC took possession of the market after its completion. Following the Mayor's intervention to resolve allocation issues, the market has now officially opened.
Councilor Md. Ismail presided over the inauguration ceremony, which was attended by Councilors Md. Ilyas, Wasim Uddin Chowdhury, Nurul Amin, Huree Ara Beauty, State Officer Rezaul Karim, Chief Engineer Shaheen-ul-Islam, and Metropolitan Awami League leaders Ershadul Amin, Foysal Amin, and Aslam Soudagar.
The event was conducted by the Secretary of the Foylattali Kitchen Market Owners' Association, Md. Masud Raihan, with other notable attendees including Market Convenor Omar Farooq Soudagar, Nazrul Islam Sohel, Zahurul Haque Babul, Md. Kafil Uddin, Md. Helal, and Md. Nabi.
