Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) has started cleaning the drains and digging the soil through its own manpower during the dry season to alleviate the waterlogging during the monsoon season.
CCC Mayor Rezaul Karim Chowdhury inspected the cleaning and soil removal of the drain on Thursday morning.
CCC mayor said that if the soil extraction from the drain is completed before the monsoon, the internal water movement capacity of the drain will increase, which on the one hand will reduce waterlogging in the city during the monsoon, and on the other hand, if the water is not frozen, mosquitoes will not grow. Therefore, the soil extraction work should be completed within summer.
The Mayor ordered the concerned officials to take legal action along with fines against those who do anything that obstructs the flow of water besides demolishing the structures built by blocking the water movement.
Bangladesh Navy Commander Latiful Haque Kazmi, CCC Chief Cleaning Officer Morshedul Alam, Deputy Chief Cleaning Officer and other officers-employees were present at the time.
