A case has been filed against expelled Awami League leader and Chairperson of Joyjatra Television, Helena Jahangir, and actor Russell Mia on charges of hurting religious sentiments and defamation.

On Sunday, October 6, a man named Nesar Uddin Bahadur filed the case with Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shahin Reza’s court. After recording the complainant's statement, the court directed the Motijheel Police to investigate the allegations and submit a report.

According to the complaint, Russell Mia introduced Helena Jahangir as his so-called sister and claimed himself to be a very powerful and famous film actor. On September 1, 2022, at around 7:30 PM, Nesar Uddin became aware of a statement by Helena Jahangir regarding her "Paapmukto" cinema. In the statement, she said that after performing ablution, one could go to a hall, watch a film, and then come out and pray. This statement was considered extremely insulting and disgraceful to all Muslims, as it hurt the religious sentiments of Islam followers. It was alleged that she deliberately and premeditatedly attacked religious sentiments with conscious intent.

On September 21, Russell Mia was seen swearing falsely on the Holy Quran at the police station to establish their lies. He repeatedly swore falsely on the Quran, attempting to turn lies into truth, which was deemed an insult to the Muslim community and a clear example of causing severe unrest. Helena Jahangir, with the intent to fulfill her personal interests, made anti-Islamic statements, while Russell Mia, by falsely swearing on the Quran, intentionally hurt the religious sentiments of Muslims across the country.
