A case has been lodged against 1,200 leaders and workers of Bangladesh Awami League (AL), including former mayor of Rajshahi City Corporation AHM Khairuzzaman Liton, for their alleged involvement in killing of Shibir leader Raihan Ali during the anti-discrimination movement.

Rana Islam, local unit coordinator of Anti-discrimination student movement, lodged the case with Boalia Model Police Station in the city last night mentioning names of 50 AL leaders and workers.

In his petition, Rana Islam mentioned that the AL leaders and workers led by AHM Khairuzzaman Liton and city unit general secretary Dablu Sarker suddenly opened fire and blasted bombs from point blank indiscriminately on the large rally of the students-people at

Alupatty area around 1:30 pm on August 5.

Scores of students, including Raihan Ali, Maruf Mourtoza, Ibrahim Ali, maruf Al Hassan and Mehedi Hassan, sustained bullet-wounds in the attack. They were admitted to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for treatment, where Raihan Ali succumbed to his injuries on August 8.

Masud Parvej, officer-in-charge of Bolaia Police Station, said they recorded the case and started conducting drives to bring the accused people to book as early as possible.
