Case filed against ex-mayors, 84 others in Joypurhat

A case was filed here on Monday against 86 people, including former Mayor of Joypurhat Pourashava Mostafizur Rahman Mostak and former Mayor of Panchbibi Pourashava Habibur Rahman Habib, allegedly for injuring people during the anti-discrimination student movement in Bata Mor area in the town.

Emon Hasan, son of Mukul Hossain of Kadermandal Para village of Joypurhat Sadar upazila, filed the case as a plaintiff at the 1st Administrative Court of the district.

Plaintiff's lawyer Ahsan Habib Chapal said that Judge Md Ismail Hossain of Joypurhat Sadar 1st Administrative Court accepted the case and ordered the officer-in-charge (OC) Joypurhat police station to take necessary measures.

The other accused are - former Chairman of Sadar Upazila Parishad Hasanuzzaman Mithu, District Awami League Publicity Secretary AEM Masud Reza, former Chairman of Mohammadabad Union Ataur Rahman, and former Chairman of Barail Union Alamgir, among others.

According to the FIR of the case, a group of AL leaders and activists, on August 4 attacked the people of anti-discrimination student movement in Bata Mor area in the district town. The attackers injured Emon Hasan and several people.

Later, Emon Hasan was taken to hospital.  Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Joypurhat Sadar Police Station Humayun Kabir confirmed the matter.
