Case filed against AL leaders for setting fire to BNP office in Gaibandha

A case was filed with Gaibandha Sadar Thana against a number of leaders of Awami League (AL), district unit, on Sunday for vandalizing the party office of BNP here and setting fire on it recently.

Police sources said along with sticks and sharp weapons, the leaders of AL and its associate organizations attacked the party office of district BNP and Jubo dal located at Circular Road of the town on July 17. They also vandalized the party office and its furniture. Then they threw cocktail that exploded with a big ban. At one stage, they poured petrol from the jerry can and set fire on it.

Md. Rafiqul Islam, Convener of Jubodal, Badiakhali union unit filed the case. Officer-in-Charge of Sadar thana Masud Rana said the case was filed with the thana for attacking and setting the party office of BNP on fire accusing the AL leaders and workers.

In the case, the names of 98 accused have been mentioned and the names of 150-160 accused were not mentioned.

An effort is being made to nab the accused, he also said.

Those who have been made accused of the case are former lawmaker Shah Sarwar Kabir, mayor Matlubur Rahman, Shah Masud Jahangir Kabir Milon, Aminur Zaman Ringku, Shah Mainul Islam Shilpu, Rezaul Karim Reza, Mridul Mostafi Jhantu, Omor Faruk Rubel, Kamal Hossain and Shah Ahsan Habib Razib.
