Drik has revived the tradition of political cartoons through its exhibition 'Cartoon Ey Bidroho' (Rebellion in Cartoons) at their photo gallery in Panthapath, Dhaka. The exhibition highlights the important role political cartoons played during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement, where artists used their skills to inspire and support the revolution.

This event brought together the work of 82 cartoonists, featuring 175 pieces of art that capture the spirit of resistance. Political cartoons have long been a powerful way to criticize and challenge authority. These artworks used to appear regularly in newspapers, offering sharp commentary on corruption and injustice. However, due to censorship and a culture of fear under the previous government, this art form had become almost extinct. ASM Rezaur Rahman, general manager of Drik and curator of the exhibition, emphasized the importance of this revival, especially in the age of social media and citizen journalism. He noted how ordinary people now use their phones and devices to expose the truth, often at great personal risk. The exhibition reflects this shift in power dynamics, showing how art can still play a vital role in social change.

Notable works in the exhibition include a cartoon depicting a blood-covered statue and another showing a grotesque red creature being attacked, symbolizing the struggle against oppression. Cartoonists like Mahatab Rashid and Mehedi Haque used their art to resist tyranny and support the protestors. Their works became symbols of the movement, offering hope and inspiration to those fighting for justice. Drik’s exhibition is a timely reminder of the power of art in challenging authority and inspiring change.
