The Election Commission (EC) has directed the relevant ministries and departments to carry out their responsibilities properly in organizing a free, fair and peaceful election.
"The EC has asked all relevant ministries and departments to carry out their responsibilities properly so that no problem can hamper a peaceful election. Ministries and departments concerned have assured us of providing all cooperation in this regard," said EC secretariat Jahangir Alam.
After the EC meeting with the secretaries and heads of departments of the concerned ministries ahead of the 12th National Parliament elections, he said the EC has given some instructions so that the elections can be organized in a free and fair manner.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Kazi Habibul Awal chaired the meeting.
Representatives of different ministries and departments, including Bangladesh Bank, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, Department of Technical and Madrasah Education, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Shipping, Department of Armed Forces and Cabinet Division attended the meeting.
"The EC has given some instructions so that the elections can be organized in a free and fair manner. Different issues relating to the election were discussed in details in the meeting. The message of the Election Commission is that those who have the responsibility for organizing a fair and peaceful election must perform their duties properly," he added.
Jahangir Alam said that the EC is determined to hold the election within the time frame of the constitution. To make this event free and fair, meetings are being held periodically with the heads of the relevant ministries and departments.
Earlier, a meeting was held with the heads of the law enforcement and intelligence agencies.
