The Center for Agriculture Policy Studies (CAPS) has proposed loan or loan installment waivers for farmers to deal with flood damage in the south-eastern part of the country.
Besides, the organisation has also proposed to introduce loan system and crop insurance for farmers.
CAPS came up with these proposals at the round table meeting on flood management at the National Press Club on Friday morning. CAPS Executive Director Dr. Mohammad Ruhul Amin presented the keynote.
At that time, the chairman of the institution. Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, agricultural economist Dr. Mohammad Jahangir Alam and others were present. While presenting keynote paper, the executive director of the organisation said that Dambur dam built on the Gomti river in Tripura, India, was opened without informing Bangladesh, causing severe flooding in 11 districts of the southeastern part of the country. But according to the international policy, the disaster should be predicted at least 10 days in advance.
In order to deal with the disaster successfully, measures should be taken to remove the previous pro-Awami corrupt officers and employees and appoint honest,
efficient and qualified officers and employees, said CAPS executive director.
