A group of people from Itna upazila in Kishoreganj district formed a human chain and held protest rally demanding action against fake Freedom Fighters (FFs).
The human chain and protest rally were held in front of the FF complex of Itna upazila on Monday. People and FFs of different unions of Itna upazila joined the protest demanding the expulsion and cancellation of certificates for fake freedom fighters, including Abdur Rahim Mollah.
During human chain, several speakers addressed the crowd, including former FF commander Sheikh Abdul Matin, former commander Md AbdusSattar, and other notable FFs.
Speakers at the human chain said that Abdur Rahim Mollah is a fake freedom fighter. They noted that he applied for a freedom fighter certificate in 2021 during the last verification committee review but failed to present any credible evidence or witness testimony in the presence of all living freedom fighters of the Upazila. His application was unanimously rejected by the committee due to insufficient proof of his age during the liberation war. Unable to get his name included in the civil gazette, Rahim Mollah allegedly used the influence of government officials to include his name later, thus obtaining all government benefits.
When contacted with Abdur Rahim Mollah over the phone, he said I am a genuine freedom fighter. There is no doubt about it. I am seeking the BNP nomination for the Kishoreganj-4 constituency. Some of my opponents, driven by vengeance, have orchestrated this fake human chain with their Awami colleagues against me. I condemn this and protest against it. Dilshad Jahan, the acting UpazilaNirbahi Officer (UNO), said I know that the human chain was held peacefully. If they have any complaints, appropriate action will be taken.
