A human chain was formed in Mongla demanding the decontamination and detoxification of the rivers and canals of the Sundarbans region. On this occasion the programme was observed on the banks of the Pashur River at Charkana on Marine Drive Road in Mongla on Sunday morning on the occasion of the World Rivers Day.
The human chain was organized by Bangladesh Paribesh Andolan (BAPA), Waterkeepers Bangladesh, Pashur River Waterkeeper and Badaban Sangha. A rally was held after the human chain under the slogan 'River for Human'.
The rally was presided over by Md. Nur Alam Sheikh, the convener of Bangladesh Environment Movement (BAPA).

Director of Sundarbans Museum Subhash Chandra Biswas, General Secretary of Mongla Press Club Amir Hossain Amu, lyricist Mollah Al Mamun, Rakesh Sana of Badaban Sangha, Pashur River Waterkeeper Volunteer Kamala Sarkar, Sheikh Russell, Mehedi Hasan Babu and others spoke on the occasion.
After the human chain, a children's painting competition, prize distribution and cultural program titled 'River Matrik Bangladesh' was held on the banks of Charkana Pashur River at 11 am.
Sheikh Abdur Rahman, Mayor of Mongla Port Municipality, addressed the gathering as the chief guest and handed over the prizes to the children.
