Call to establish decent work environment in workplaces

World Day for Decent Work today

With the theme ‘Reuse, Reuse, Reconstruction: Fair Waste Management in the Leather Industry for Decent Work’, the World Day for Decent Work-2023 will be observed today (Saturday) in Bangladesh and across the world. 

The day is observed on October 7 ever year. Since 2008, millions of people have participated in this global mobilisation along with the trade unions to stand up for decent work. 

The wealthiest 1% has owned more money than the rest of the planet since 2015. The observance promotes the idea that putting people first should be the center of a new global economy. 

Several platforms will observe the World Day for Decent Work-2023 in Bangladesh amid various programmes. 

The Bangladesh Occupational Safety, Health, and Environment Foundation (OSHE) will form a human chain in front of the National Press Club in the city at 10:00 am.  The OSHE Foundation will also bring out a procession in the city.

OSHE Foundation called for establish high-quality and decent work environments in workplaces. 

In a press release issued on Friday, the OSHE Foundation said that the primary purpose of this procession and human chain is to shed light on the current state of workers' rights in our country. “We will emphasize issues such as fair wages, the proper implementation, and enforcement of safety and health regulations in workplaces, responsible waste management, occupational safety measures, and the genuine demands put forth by workers' organisations to establish high-quality work environments,” says the press release. 

Tonmoy Nath, communications officer of the OSHE Foundation; confirmed the matter of the press release to the Bangladesh. He on behalf of the organisation called for participating the event to raising awareness about the critical issues regarding workers.
