A human chain was formed by journalist of Bijoynagar upazila to protest against the alleged false case filed against six journalists including Daily Jugantar correspondent and president of Bijoynagar upazila press club.
The journalists claimed that a false case was filed against them on charge of extortion and sexual harassment as earlier, they published a news titled ‘Journalists in Jail for Police's extra-marital affairs.’
The human chain was formed in the Upazila parishad premises demanding the withdrawal of the false case and proper trial of the real culprits.
Bijoynagar Upazila Press Club president SM Kamrul Hasan Shanto, joint general secretary Hira Ahmed Zakir, office secretary Shahnewaz Shah, treasurer Kefaitul Bhuiya, former treasurer Mohammad Habib, publicity and publication secretary Mohiuddin Rubel, education and library affairs secretary Palash Kumar Das, senior journalist Mizanur Rahman, Md Kamrul Alam Sohail, Md Jahangir Alam, Shamim Usman Gani, Chanaul Haque were present among the others.
Bijoynagar Upazila Press Club president and correspondent of Daily Jugantor, SM Kamrul Hasan Shanto, who is accused in the case, said a false, fictitious and defamatory case was filed in the name of six journalists on the advice of some miscreants after publishing the news following all the rules and regulations of news publication. This is unfortunate, condemnable, and goes against the fundamentals of a free press. We demand highest level of judicial action against the true offenders and the prompt withdrawal of this complaint, he added.
