The Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWBD) convened its annual workshop dedicated to river information updating and IT infrastructure management for the rivers in the western part of the country.
On Tuesday morning, the meeting room of Fardipur Deputy Commissioner's conference room, with Shahjahan Siraj, the chief engineer of BWBD, serving as the esteemed chief guest for the occasion.
Kamrul Ahsan Talukdar, an official from BWBD Faridpur, presided over the proceedings. Prominent individuals who addressed the workshop alongside him were Abdur Razzak Mollah, Chairman of Sadar Upazila; Parth Pratim Saha, Water Engineer, Fardipur; Ramanand Pal, Additional Water Administrator (Revenue); Syed Sahdiul Alam, Superintending Engineer of BWBD Md. Abdul Hamid, representing the Kushtaiya Region; and senior officials from the Water Development Board in the western region.
During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the presence of 60 rivers within the western jurisdiction of the Water Development Board. Concerns were raised regarding declining water flow in these rivers and lakes attributed to escalating winds.
Speakers underscored the imperative of pinpointing river locations to mitigate impending risks to the county. Clear roles for public representatives were advocated for in safeguarding nature and the environment. The collaborative effort of all societal classes and governmental departments was deemed essential in preserving rivers and streams.
Addressing the workshop, speakers lamented the encroaching threat posed by certain societal factions gradually depleting rivers and reservoirs. A unified front across all societal strata was deemed indispensable in breaking free from this detrimental cycle. It was emphasised that without the collective effort of all societal segments, the preservation of nature and the environment remains an insurmountable challenge.
