Call for end to party politics on campus

A group of students at Dhaka University (DU) staged a protest, calling for an end to all forms of party politics involving staff, officials, instructors, and students.

On Friday at noon, they organised a demonstration in which students assembled in the university halls and marched to TSC's Raju Memorial Sculpture. There, they held a rally expressing their demands.

Protesters argued that banning student politics was a key issue in the anti-discrimination student movement. They emphasised that banning politics would prevent corruption and flattery, and they called for the immediate establishment of a Student Council.

The students criticised the misuse of guest rooms and common areas in the halls, which they claim are exploited for political gain. They rejected the idea of complete depoliticization, advocating instead for democratic elections to choose student leaders. They also voiced strong support for holding the Dhaka University Central Student Council (DACSU) election.

Despite classes being scheduled to resume on September 22, the students pledged not to return until their demands are met. They chanted slogans such as "Campus politics—no more!" and "Party politics—out of campus!"
