Published : 21 Mar 2024 09:22 PM

The World Water Day was celebrated on Thursday in Patuakhali's Kalapara with a demand for digging all rivers and canals, and stopping filling of ponds and arable land. The theme of this year's World Water Day was ‘Water for Peace’.

Pani Jadughar, development organization Action Aid and Avas organised a press conference in the conference room of Kalapara Water Museum to mark the day.

In a written statement at the press conference, Member Secretary of Pani Jadughar Zainal Abedin said that thousands of acres of land remain uncultivated in Kalapara during this season only for lack of water and salinity. Drainage canals adjacent to agricultural land dry up. Many structures have been built by occupying and filling canals.

Therefore, on March 22 Water Day, all these canals were freed from encroachment. And demand was raised to dig the rivers and canals that were filled.
