The Cabinet on Thursday approved the proposed list of holidays for 2022 calendar year with 22 public holidays.
The approval was given at a Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Prime Minister took part in the meeting virtually from her official Ganabhaban residence in the capital.
Cabinet Secretary Khandker Anwarul Islam said this at a press briefing held at the Secretariat.
He said the list of government holidays for 2022 has been prepared as per this year’s holiday list. Out of the total 22 days, 14 days of general leave and 7 days of public leave were proposed in the executive order. There are 6 days of weekly holiday on Friday and Saturday.
14 days general holiday include the occasion of national days and important religious days of different communities, said Cabinet Secretary.
“There are 3 weekly holidays (2 Fridays and one Saturday)”.
Khandaker Anwarul Islam added that 8 days public holiday in executive order will befall on the occasion of Bengali New Year and various important religious days, these include 3 weekly holidays (one Friday and two Saturdays).
There will also be three optional holidays for religious purposes. Employees belonging to various small ethnic groups working in and around the Chattogram Hill Tracts have two days’ “optional leave” on the occasion of Vaisabi, the main social festival or the celebration of such social festivals, among these, one day holiday will be befallen on Friday.
