Businessman’s house looted

Some unidentified miscreants looted Tk 80 thousand from a businessman's house introducing themselves as volunteers in Savar, on the outskirts of the capital on Tuesday. However, local police claimed they did not get any complaint yet in this regard.

The victim is Md. Abdur Rahman, 36, son of Freedom Fighter Md. Abul Hossain, of Badda Chayabithi area under Savar municipality.

Abdur Rahman alleged, "Around 15-20 youth entered my house by introducing themselves as volunteers and asked me whether I was infected with corona virus (COVID-19) or not. When I said I was not infected, the miscreants started beating me up and demanded Tk 2 lakh as extortion”.

“At one point the miscreants entered my room in the house and looted Tk 80 thousand cash and vandalized the house as well. Later, the miscreants run away when locals come forward after hearing my screams", he added.

Md. Jihad, a resident of the area said, "The incident took place around 2:00pm on Tuesday. The miscreants looted the house very quickly. At first we thought they were volunteers as they were equipped with hand-mike and wooden sticks, which can be seen in volunteer's hands since the coronavirus spread in the country.  But later we understood that they were not volunteers, but they managed to flee in the meantime."

On other hand, Nur Mohammad, A student of Asa University claimed, he identified a miscreant, who was directly  involved with the incident. He said, "Already we found a picture of the miscreant from a social site, and we think he lives in this area. Although we have yet to identify his name and detailed identity."

AFM Sayeed, Officer-in-charge of Savar Model Police Station told The Bangladesh Post, "Nobody filed any written complaint yet in this regard. If anybody complains to us then we will take necessary action after investigating the matter."
