Speakers at a view exchange meeting on Monday stated that the business chambers or trade bodies have to be transformed into business forum in true sense instead of political platforms so that they can play their due role in ensuring favorable business environment in the country.
They highlight that this is high time for graduation from LDC status, rather some more years could be taken to graduate to improve capabilities, self-reliance and competitiveness to survive in the global trade.
Bangladesh Garments Accessories & Packaging Manufacturers and Exporters Associations (BPGMEA) organized the view exchange at a city hotel to discuss the RMG sector challenges, recent crisis and their possible solutions. Expressing needs to conduct purification drive in the business bodies they demanded immediate removal of partisan leaders in the trade bodies in a bid to make it free from political influence and perform its duty smoothly.
Former FBCCI President Abdul Awal Mintu attended the event as chief guest while BKMEA Executive Chairman, Mohammad Hatem moderated with BPGMEA President Md. Shahriar in the chair.
Citing that various measures of the national board of revenue (NBR) pose hurdle and cause harassments to the businessmen, they demand immediate removal of the current NBR Chairman and appointing a non-partisan, honest and efficient Chairman.
While addressing, Abdul Awal Mintu said the business and politics are both complimentary and supplementary to each other.
Stressing institutional reforms in every spheres, Mintu said the nation needs a government which is represented by the mass people of the country as soon as possible. Ensuring accountability everywhere is very important.
BGMEA Director Abdullahil Rakib, former BGMEA President, Qazi Monir, Bangladesh Buying House Owners Association Presiswnt, Md. Pavel, Bangladesh Freight Forwarders Association President Farid Ahmed, former DCCI President and Director of BGMEA, Shams Mahmud also spoke on the occasion among others.
Speakers also demanded punishment NBR officials wh were involved in harassing businessmen illegally.
