The 48-hours long bus and launch strike, enforced in Khulna by the Transport Owners Workers Association and Launch Workers Association since Friday morning, is continuing in Khulna.

Leaders of both Bus owners and workers of Khulna told BSS Saturday, that they called the strike demanding immediate withdrawn of engine run ‘Nosimon, ‘Korimon’, ‘Bhotbhoty’ and battery run easy bikes from the highways and main roads as early as possible.

‘We called the 48-hour transport strike to mitigate our demands by Saturday,” said president of Khulna District Bus-Minibus Owners Association Mizanur Rahman Mizan.

As the strike caused huge sufferings to people, we would not longer the strike,” he said adding that we will call indefinite strike in future if our demand was not met immediately.

Replying a question, he said there is no relation of bus strike centering yesterday’s BNP rally in the city.

Meanwhile, launch strike in the southern routes has started from Khulna since Friday morning.

The launch workers in Khulna embarked on a 48-hour strike demanding enhancing their wages, Delwar Hossain, Divisional Secretary of Bangladesh Launch Labour Association said.

“We called the strike to press home our 10-point demands, including increase of wages,” he said it has no connection with the BNP’s mass rally.
